  1. Fry the chana dal to golden brown on low flame. Soak in sufficient water for 1 hour.
  2. Discard the water and keep soaked chana on a plate. Chop the ginger piece.
  3. Heat oil and add ponch phoran. When splutter add curry leaves and fry for half a minute.
  4. Add chopped ginger, chilli, hing and fry for half minute.
  5. Then add the soaked dal, grated coconut, imli, turmeric powder and salt. Cook for 2-3 minutes on low flame.
